The magic of travelling

Choir of the Association of Students and Alumni of the Open University for seniors

The Choir of the Association of Students and Alumni of the Open University for seniors (AUOM) was born in October 2003 as the initiative of the students of the senior degree of the Open University for Seniors (UOM) and it belongs to the Association of Students and Alumni of this university programme.

This chorus has performed all over Majorca auditoriums and theatres as: Xesc Forteza Theatre, Bellver Castle, Casal Balaguer, Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, Anselm Turmeda and Son Lledó auditoriums, Monastery of Montesión in Porreres, Monastery of La Real, Basilica of St. Francis, Santa Monica school, Es Baluart Museum, Christmas concerts at the University of the Balearic Islands in Palma ...

Outside Majorca they have taken part in the "First meeting of University Choirs of Senior" (Madrid, 2008), organized by the " Confederación de Asociaciones y Federaciones de Mayores Universitarios " (CAUM), in the Basilica of Santa Maria and in the Main Hall of the University of Alicante (Alicante, 2010) and  in the Alboraya Auditorium during the “Meeting of University Senior Choirs” (Valencia, 2011).

Since 2006, they organized the "Spring Choral Festival." In 2010 they also organized the "Marathon Pro Haiti, and in 2011 they released the polyphonic version of the Mass "Caminem Germans" by Baltasar Bibiloni, jointly with the groups of “Aires Majorquins” and “Gent del Duero” . This performance was represented again in February 2012 at Sant Cayetano cluster (Palma) accompanied by “Aires Mallorquins” and “Rondalla Bellver."

In 2013 they took part in Almendros en Flor Festival (+ 55), with the song "L’alegri que passa"  ( by Santiago Rusiñol) at the Auditorium of the  March Library, directed by Antoni Artigues, in the  programme "Opera and Music" with other choirs and the Municipal Band of Palma directed by Mario Errea, and in the "Harmonia Caelestis" of Pal Esterhazy in the Basilica of St. Frances.

In 2014, in addition to the Concert for their Xth anniversary, they also prepared a new presentation of "L’alegria que passa” in the Municipal Theatre of Llubí, they took part in the ninth edition of the Spring Choral Festival and they had a choral exchange trip to the city of Valladolid.

Among their usual commitments: The inauguration and graduation ceremonies of the academic courses of the Open University for Seniors of the UIB, the openings of the “International Summer Senior University Programmes" and Christmas concerts at the Elderly nursing home (where they habitually rehearse).

Joan Sureda is their pianist, and since its foundation Irina Capriles is the director.
